High stress from a job or lifestyle is different from other forms of anxiety.

High-Stress/Anxiety

High stress, or anxiety caused by a job is a very specific form of anxiety, usually caused by external pressure that doesn’t subside when one leaves work. This can be brought on by deadlines, performance stress, work place relationships, toxic or hectic work environments, and unusual levels of high responsibility. Whatever the reason, the stress doesn’t end with the job. When you stop working, your brain keeps producing anxious thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that never allow your nervous system to relax. Instead, you keep trying to access the threat to you and your environment. Because the nervous system never slows down, and the thoughts and behaviors continue being overwhelmed and anxious, there is a serious risk of burnout. Burnout is a state of feeling numb, depressed, or unable to function. In addition, addiction is often a coping mechanism for this kind of stress, as is OCD tendencies to regain control.

The truth is that the more you try to solve this on your own, the worse it can get. The best thing you can do for yourself is identify the issue as a problem, and seek out expert help. Just as an employee might come to you with a project issue because you are capable of solving it, you benefit from coming to me to help you with your stress, and to teach you tools that will sustain you going forward.
